Early Release of AIMM Peri-Operative Quality Improvement Project Case Study
Recently AIMM was honored to receive a phone call from an independent,
nonprofit health care accrediting organization requesting information about the
results of our Peri-operative Quality Improvement Project. The call prompted us
to compile and release our Peri-operative Quality Improvement Project Case Study
ahead of schedule.
AIMM's unique "Light Case Management" services focus on working with
health plan members who are acutely ill, but not catastrophically ill. AIMM
Registered Nurses strive to create wise consumers of health care services
through telephonic education and associated interventions. Since patient safety
is a subject identified by IOM, AHRQ, Leap-frog and other leaders, as a goal for
improving the health of consumers, and because surgical errors are a leading
cause of medical injuries and cost billions of dollars per year in lost
productivity, disability, and healthcare costs, AIMM chose to focus on measuring
the impact of the unique peri-operative patient teaching that is done as part of
"Light Case Management". The premise of the program is that empowering patients
to understand their role would reduce surgical errors and post-operative
complications. These educated consumers would also feel empowered to ask
questions and insist on the Gold Standard of care. After a full year of
interventions, the impact of the program is quite impressive. Admissions per
1000, Average Length of Stay, re-admission rates, and other clinical examples of
the success of the peri-operative teaching are highlighted in the Case
Study.
